Last clinic session

I was nervous that my class IV pt wouldn't show. I needed her last 2 quads to meet all my requirements. She did show and I was greatful. I worried about the deadlines of everything and am glad to have met them all. Now that everything is over, it is with emotion that this is the last time for doing clinic with the professors. I have really enjoyed my time here.

Hard Patient

This afternoon I was finally able to do an OD on my last mock board patient. I really struggled with her for mock boards. Today after doing probe depths and taking time to get a closer look at things, I am convinced it is concrete on her teeth. She literally has calculus caps on the rest of her posterior dentition. I am grateful she was given to my by someone who has already screened her and that was the best quad for mock boards. I feel bad for the condition her teeth are in and know that it will take quite a bit of work to get the rest of her clean. I secretly was hoping that she was a board patient. But I do not think I want to set myself up for a failure if I used her as a board patient. Keep looking!

Last Mockboard

I really self doubted myself. I felt I was just burnishing the calculus. I did better than I thought though.

Hard Day

Today I was able to see my two older sons since they are on spring brake from
SLCC. I tried got a pano on each one of them so that meets my qualifications for panos. I really had to run through them. I am glad that I know that they are pretty clean so doing each one of them as a new patient made it possible.

This afternoon I had a class IV and was able to get 2 quads done on her. I did LA, which I needed as well. She was very nervous about today but towards the end of the second quad, she was falling asleep. That made me feel good that she was comfortable and at ease. It was a good learning experience in that she has tons of malocclusal problems.

3-3-09

I was able to get my last class II exam done. I got 3 PEs done. I was hoping to get 4 PEs done but 3 is good. I would like to get all my PEs done this month. I still need to find a mock board patient as well as a board patient. That makes me a little nervous right now. There still is time.

Mock board

Today I did my mock board. I think it went pretty well. I missed two pieces of calculus. I did get the areas that I wanted clean though which made me feel good. I also sharpened my instruments right after because I worked on him so had to remove his tenacious calculus. This afternoon my patient cancelled. I was able to get a patient that came to midtown for and exam. She was a class II. She had a 2 month old baby and was lactating. She had moderate perio that we deduced was do to hormones and had a hard time cleaning her as she bled quite a bit. She was a good experience!

Snow Day

I had 3 patients scheduled for today and ended up only seeing one. Two of them no showed. I am sure it was due to the snow. By noon there was 3 inches and then by 3 there was at least 5. I was able to work on my case study while waiting for clinic to end. At least there was some production.

tenacious calculus

Clinic was good. My exam for a Class III had some interesting spots of tenacious calculus. With it being a hit and miss with the tenacious calculus it makes me wonder if spots were missed and I was able to work on them today. One of the spots was green calculus so I knew immediately when I had that piece off. The others were not as noticable. It took a bit of work, more pressure of course and instructor observation while working the areas. I found it to be quite a valuable experience in the removal of it.

Mock Board

This morning my patient decided to cover a shift for a fellow worker instead 0f coming in this morning. It was my turn to have a "no show" I guess!

Production Day

On my production day I decided to 3 children in the morning. On one of the children I did a couple of sealants. Things flowed really well. In the afternoon I had my first patient cancel so I brought in a daughter of mine and did 4 sealants on her and then I had another patient scheduled that had a history of really high blood pressure and had to dismiss her last semester. She was running high on her blood pressure and had to use the larger cuff which helped to bring her BP down to a managable level. She did turn out to be a Class II and a Class III. I was able to get a full mouth of x-rays on her which helped my meet the requirements for all my PAs!

Goal Setting

Today went well. I am setting a goal to try to see at least 3 patients a day. I did so today. Things went well and didn't have many complications. I'm excited to progress on.

Second clinic 2009

I am not having very good luck with keeping patients this semester. I was able to bring my daughter in this morning for a patient who informed me that he couldn't come in till 10:30. I was able to pass off 2 PEs and do sealants on her so I felt that I still benefitted this morning. Last night my afternoon patient canceled. I was able to find a patient to come in but not until 2:15. Oh well, at least it was a patient in the chair!!!

Spring first clinic

I was a little apprehensive about starting and wondering if things would come back naturally after the Christmas break. It did and I was pleasantly suprised! To start off the semester I had my first patient cancel when they were supposed to be there in clinic. I was able to get my husband to come in at the last minute so I had a patient in the chair. I was able to get some more x-rays so I'm feeling pretty good about my standing with my requirements this semester. I want to try to push myself so that I am more up to speed for when I graduate.

Spring first clinic

I was wondering what today would be like. I was suprised that things seemed to flow without much thought. I was able to get both patients finished from start to finish, including x-rays. I want to push myself each clinic time to increase in speed but also focus on a light touch to hopefully increase comfort as well.

Spring first clinic

I was a little concerned how the first day would go after our break. I was suprised that things seemed to flow. I was able to complete 2 patients, including x-rays, from start to finish. I want to push myself each clinic time so that I can be up to office speed by graduation time.
